‘Water Finds its Level’ is an abstract landscape, inspired by the southern landscapes of Australia such as Tasmania and Wilsons Prom in Victoria. It was painted in many layers of under-planned paint-pours, where each layer informs the next. The expression ‘Water finds its level’ comes to mind so often when painting in this way.. not just in the obvious pouring of liquids, but also in the finding of balance in a painting. In this case, the balance of negative space is prominent.
