Mauka is the Hawaiian word for mountain side, as opposed to Makai (ocean side) used when giving directions around the islands. I loved that… it’s so simple compared to a NSEW compass, and it gives you a sense the island could be anywhere.

Mauka is multi-layered with different acrylics, acrylic skins and inks. It’s framed and ready to hang. The Hanko stamp signature shown in the detail pics, includes the special ‘H’ stamp indicating it was created in the Honolulu studio.
