‘Deconstructed Vase of Dahlias’ is, believe it or not, another in the still life series I’m currently working on. “But it looks just like your other abstracts” you say, and that would be fair, but actually originally those abstracts from long ago (with all the circular and organic shapes) where inspired by dahlias. With this piece, I’m pushing the needle to the end of the abstract/realism spectrum, while keeping some vase like motifs on some of the organic shapes bouncing through space. The blossoms too, once recognisable, now dance across the canvas as fluid abstractions.
