This prunus is the latest in the Big Bonsai series, and the first prunus (though I have a few cherry blossoms up my sleeve). One of the common styles of authentic bonsai is that of “cascading” and “semi-cascading”. Typically these trees grow up then cascade down past the pot rim, and the pots are generally deeper and narrower than that of other styles. The cascade is one of the more elegant styles, IMHO.

Although this piece wasn’t painted in time for the Big Bonsai Show, it might interest you to read about it here in The Big Bonsai Catalogue .
